What is this Conference about?
The Association of Medical Councils of Africa (AMCOA) 26th Annual International Conference is being hosted by the Health Professions Council of Zambia.

The aim of the conference is to facilitate an exchange of information and meaningful collaboration among health practitioners regulatory authorities, which will provide for the development of concepts and new approaches in the regulation of healthcare practitioners. health practitioner regulation.

The conference will provide an opportunity for delegates across all health sectors, health regulators, policy makers, academics, and service providers amongst others; to engage on regulatory matters pertaining to the healthcare environment. This includes the shift in global and local healthcare trends.
Where is the Conference being held?

The conference will take place at Avani Victoria Falls Resort, Livingstone Zambia.

Is there preferred accommodation I can book?

Accommodation rates have been negotiated at the conference venue at ZMW 2650.00 per night for single rooms which equates to approximately USD 107.00 per night.

What are the Conference dates?

The Conference Dates are from 11 – 15 August 2024.

Delegates are encouraged to arrive from Saturday 10 August 2024 up to midday Sunday 11 August 2024, to register their arrival, collect conference information.

Ground Transport in Livingstone
All international delegates will be provided with ground transport from the airport to the hotel. Delegates must provide the Secretariat with their final travel itineraries by 28th July 2024 via email to amcoa@hpcsa.co.za.

Local delegates will need to arrange their own transport and accommodation.

What are the Conference objectives?
  • To determine strategies to strengthen generation and use of research, innovation, evidence and technology to inform policy and practice for use of artificial intelligence in healthcare. 
  • To establish strategies for Regulators to ensure that AI-driven health practices meet quality and safety standards. This includes validating AI algorithms, monitoring their performance, and ensuring they comply with medical guidelines and ethical standards. 
  • To define effective mechanisms for regulatory institutions to develop systems that would detect plagiarism/piracy in healthcare training education and research to promote quality healthcare practitioners from health training institutions. 
  • With AI relying heavily on patient data, devise mechanism that will assist regulators to enforce strict protocols for data privacy and security to protect patient confidentiality and prevent misuse or unauthorized access to sensitive health information. To establish clear ethical guidelines and legal frameworks for the responsible development and deployment of AI in healthcare. This includes addressing issues such as algorithmic bias, patient consent, and liability for AI-driven decisions. 
  • Given a rapid pace of technological advancement, to strengthen regulatory frameworks to ensure that it is flexible and adaptable to keep pace with evolving AI capabilities and emerging challenges in healthcare. 
  • To identify international perspectives and analysis of all of the above strategic areas.
What are the expected Conference value and outcomes?

  • Exchange of experiences and lessons learned on effective training strategies, policies and practices to promote alignment of training and improved training outcomes. 
  • Opportunity for stakeholder engagement to improve training and curricular for health care professionals. 
  • Strategies and opportunities to strengthen the technical and soft skill competencies and enhance the global competitiveness and future readiness of health professionals with regards to evolving technologies, innovation, research and emerging health and environmental realities. 
  • Formulation of policy, regulatory, intergovernmental and legal frameworks to support strengthened training and development of health professionals. 
  • Publication of an AMCOA Protocol for further development of possible actionable cabinet papers in the various member states based on the conference outcomes.
